January 24th 2013 I had the honour to speak at the Nordic Infrastructure Conference (NIC) in Oslo. There where 30 speakers and 24 of them where MVP’s presenting on topics like Windows Server, Virtualization and Cloud, System Management, Unified Communications and Windows Client. There was a lot of great speakers this year as last time like Jeffrey Snover, Scott Schnoll, Johan Arwidmark, Justin Morris and Martin Lidholm to name a few. See a screen of all the speakers. Of the sessions I managed to attend I would really recommend watching the video of Jeffrey Snover’s PowerShell CrashCourse. Continue reading
Lync Server 2013
Cannot complete the transfer in Lync Server 2013
Recently I had a standard Lync call forwarding issue at a new SIP trunk deployment. The problem was that I could not forward any calls to my cellphone, use call forwaring or simring. This was a Lync 2013 deployment, but making sure that EnableSipRefer is set to $False still applies in 2013. And usually fixes this issue by using this PowerShell Cmdlet: Set-CsTrunkConfiguration –EnableReferSupport $False. After running the cmdlet it usually just works and to be sure I logged the client out and in. So if you have the same issue try this first.
This time though it did not work, even when stopping and starting the Lync services. I had to troubleshoot more. Continue reading
Lync Server 2013: Unable to publish Topology, trouble with trusted servers
When publishing the topology from the Lync 2013 topology builder you may experience the following error message and the operation will fail:
Error: A trusted server with the type “” and the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) “” was found for a different Transport Layer Security (TLS) target
- In my scenario nothing had changed in the topology regarding the trusted server it was referring to, but the trusted server was homed on a Lync 2010 pool
- A quick search lead me to this forum post
- Their scenario involved a Lync 2010 pool as well, but there it was rehomed on the Lync 2013 server and the 2010 pool had been removed
- The solution in the forum post resolved the issue for me as well Continue reading
Lync 2013 Select Primary Device available to PC-to-PC enabled users
In Lync 2010 when enabling users for “Enterprise Voice” you would get the Audio Selection Menu which helped you select your primary device at any time. This was an important menu since it would let you know what was your active device at any given time and was a huge improvement over the Communicator 2007 R2 clients. Originally it was intended that this menu was going to be enabled for users enabled for “PC-to-PC only” as well, but it ended up being a bug that became a feature. Continue reading
Recommendation: Profiles for Lync v2 for Lync 2010 and 2013
A feature not present in the Lync client is the ability to sign in with different accounts. In the native Lync client you can only be signed in with only one identity and there is no easy way to switch identities. As a consultant I implement Lync for a lot of different customers and I need to sing in as them to test features. You probably experience that scenario if you are a Lync administrator as well, testing different settings for different types of users. For Lync 2010 there was a tool developed by Greig Continue reading
